Position: Quality Engineer
Department: Quality

Reports to: Quality Director
Job purpose |
The Quality Engineer will assist the Quality Director in the continued development, maintenance, implementation and improvement of the C&R Quality System. The ideal candidate will drive and support OEM Quality objectives for new and existing products. This position is also responsible for developing all Quality documents that support APQP and PPAP requirements for projects, along with evaluating actual conditions on the production floor to formulate the project requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities |
Primary
- Drive APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) activities to successfully launch new programs with AIAG (Automotive Industry Action Group) Standard
- Support certification audits including but not limited to Ford Q1, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and ISO 14001. ISO (International Organization for Standardization) IATF (International Automotive Task Force)
- Drive PDCA (Plan Do Check Act) processes with other resource groups
- PPM (Part Per Million) reporting (customer/internal)
- Translate the customer requirements into production specifications & control plans
- Conduct capability studies on all process
- Conduct Gage R&R on all gages
- Conduct analysis on customer, internal, and supplier non-conformances
- Responsible for entering and monitoring calibration in Altegra (Calibration Management System)
- Conduct Process, Product, & Control Plan Audits
- Work with production as a bridge between Quality and Manufacturing to resolve quality and system issues
- Root Cause Analysis with 5Why Methodology and Risk Based Thinking
- Work with team for Corrective Actions and 8D
- Understands GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and SPC (Statistical Process Control)
- Responsible for disposition of non-conforming product and non-conformance log
- Collect and Conduct Analysis with Data and Testing results
- Support Cross Functional Teams with Documentation
- Provide evidence of compliance to all customer control plans
Secondary
- As needed support incoming and production inspections
- Conduct CMM and Romer arm inspections
- Other duties as assigned by manager
Required Qualifications |
- Experienced with automotive OEM new program launch requirements
- Good communication skills at all levels
- Able to read drawings and interpret specifications
- Experienced with Microsoft office and computer skills
- Well detailed and disciplined to effectively manage documents and data
- Work with/lead cross functional teams for the projects assigned
- Sound understanding of statistical methods for process capability studies and GRR studies
- Must be able to multi-task, handle diversity, and provide leadership through problem resolution
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Able to interpret quality data
- CMM experience
- Romer arm experience
- Six Sigma (Green Belt)
Education/Experience |
- Bachelor’s degree in a related technical or engineering field (or equivalent experience)
- 2-5 years of experience
Working Conditions |
- Position will work within a team atmosphere focused on immediate production standards as well as best practices for future growth
- Position requires activity throughout a manufacturing/ machinery/shop setting
- Position requires a significant amount of time standing, bending, and lifting materials required to fulfill the inspection process
- Position will require interacting and working within a shop/manufacturing environment where welding equipment and various machinery are used
- A portion of time associated with this position is spent using a computer
Physical Requirements |
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds
- Bending, squatting, lifting and gripping are daily activities
- Able to see clearly to conduct and evaluate inspections
